What is Pulmonary Hypertension?

Pulmonary hypertension, also known as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, is high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs, leading to heart failure. It is rare, but it strikes people of all ages. It is a life-threatening and life-changing disease that is difficult to diagnose. It has few treatments and no cure.The first symptom most patients notice is difficulty catching their breath when they walk uphill. In fact, patients suffering from severe PH may be unable to climb even a few stairs. But with your help, PH patients can make an even greater uphill journey.

Uphill Journeys was founded by patients and caregivers in Maine and New Hampshire to support and sustain the local pulmonary hypertension community on the journey toward finding a cure. The uphill journey of a PH patient can be easier if they can be diagnosed earlier. Our goal: a faster, more accurate diagnosis and the best treatment for every patient in Maine and New Hampshire.
